Verizon Wireless to Share Phone Data with CPNI – Opt Out Info

ArsTechnica reported that:

Verizon Wireless has decided that they are going to start sharing its customers CPNI (Customer Properitary Network Information) which includes the dates and the calls you make and receive as well as other services you use.  It does not include your name and billing information or your phone number.  Verizon Wireless is making a change in their terms of service to include the sharing of this CPNI data with its “affiliates, agents and parent companies (including Vodafone) and their subsidiaries.”

Customers can opt out of this by calling 1-800-333-9956 – you will be asked for the phone number, billing zip code and last 4 of the SSN/TIN on the account.  I have already done this with the 3 VZW lines we have and plan on spreading the word.

Verizon Wireless has updated their online Customer Agreement to include the info on the CPNI – just do a find for CPNI.
